As you create your list, is it clear why you are comparing and contrasting these two subjects? Do you have a preference for one or the other? If so, make sure you are evaluating each side fairly. A point-by-point list helps you maintain balance.
It would be better to write about how sensitive both horses and cats are to human needs and emotions. You could also suggest that though both basketball and football require a lot of teamwork, basketball players are expected to be a lot more versatile than football players.
Sample thesis statement for compare/contrast paper: While both Facebook and MySpace allow you to meet other users who have similar interests, only MySpace allows you to demonstrate your personal style.
You can't write a good compare and contrast essay without first reading what you've been assigned! Moreover, to generate a good essay you've got to read them carefully. It would probably help you to make notes (mental or, better yet, physical ones) as you read, marking things you consider important. This kind of pre-writing work can give you a serious head-start on your actual essay when you sit down to do it.
If I had a bit more to say about the items I was comparing/contrasting, I might devote a whole paragraph to how each point relates to each item. For example, I might have a whole paragraph about the clientele at Pepper 8767 s, followed by a whole paragraph about the clientele at Amante then I would move on and do two more paragraphs discussing my next point of comparison/contrast—like the ingredients available at each restaurant.
Words to indicate contrast: in contrast, however, on the other hand, nevertheless, although, counter to, on the contrary, conversely, rather than, in opposition to, opposite of Sample Introductory Paragraph
To make a chart, figure out what criteria you want to focus on in comparing the items. Along the left side of the page, list each of the criteria. Across the top, list the names of the items. You should then have a box per item for each criterion you can fill the boxes in and then survey what you 8767 ve discovered. Here 8767 s an example, this time using three pizza places:
Once you've read everything you have to, draw up lists of how those works are similar and different to each other. This is when those notes you might've taken back in step one could come in handy. Depending on how organized your thoughts are, you might just jot out a few main ideas on a blank sheet of paper/computer screen or you might actually want to make up an actual list with columns for things the texts share and things they don't. During this phase, just write down whatever comes to mind, no matter how miniscule you think it may be.

Writing on one of the compare contrast essay topics won't present any difficulties for you, as you do it mainly every day. Just think about things, objects, events and people you need to compare and contrast abstractedly. Don't brainstorm each point separately just think about your compare and contrast points in generalities.
